“What?” Jim says. When she doesn’t respond, he continues. “Well, I don’t blame you. You didn’t hand him the keys and say, ‘Go Glenn, go ride your motorcycle in the dark without any protection, while you’re full of adrenalin, and not pay attention to the cars in front of you.’ Gemma, not to make light of this guy’s fate, but tragedy happens sometimes.”
Gemma hears his words, and looks to see if she can see in his eyes if he’s lying. There is no trace of anything but what she can only interpret as caring on his face, in his eyes. “You aren’t afraid I’m a monster? A crazed psycho bitch who’ll make you want to kill yourself?”
He holds her gaze. “No.”
